Grace empowered Leadership (Wally Gerstmeier)
Leadership Equip Time (Wednesday 20th Jan, 7pm)
(2.Cor.12:9-10)
“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me…For when I am weak, then I am strong”
What God brings to the table: his grace and his power
What Paul brings to the table: his weakness
-God is looking for our obedience, not our perfection
-God is in the business of working out our weaknesses and working into us his nature
“Biblical leadership is working your way to the bottom of the ladder” (Unknown)
4 types of grace:
1. The common grace (given to all/ saved and unsaved alike)
(Isaiah.26:10)
2. Saving grace
(“by grace…through faith”)
3. Bestowed grace (gifts)
(Rom.12:6)
4. Empowering grace (allows ordinary people to live extraordinary lives)
-Of the disciples it was said that they were unschooled, ordinary men (Acts.4:13)
-The Living Bible translates “unschooled” as “uneducated, non-professional”
-What man finds flaw in, God chooses to use
(2.Corinthians.9:8)
“And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work…”
A fuller understanding of grace:
-will give you the ability to bounce back from failure (Compare Peter denying Jesus three times but then in Acts.2 it says, “Peter stood up…”)
-will stop you from being critical and judgemental
-will smash the self-made-man heresy (“I am what I am by the grace of God”)
-perfects our weaknesses (turns the pistol into a bazooka)
And a fuller understanding of grace is received:
-BY FAITH
-THROUGH HUMILITY
-“God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble”
-honesty with the Father
-declaration of dependence on him
“clothe yourself in humility (John the Baptist “He must increase, I must decrease”)
-being gracious to others
-coming to the end of yourself
