Jesus versus Religion…

By gabe • March 23rd, 2010

(below is an extract from a news article from www.yahoo.com commenting on a weekend interview with Tiger Woods)

“Certainly, it’s not uncommon for people embroiled in scandal to suddenly wrap themselves in religion as a way of deflecting criticism. Prisoners and politicians alike often turn to religion when their worldly deeds come crashing down around them. So it’s understandable to view Woods’ embracing of Buddhism, Sunday and at his Feb. 19 press conference, as a cynical ploy for sympathy. Thing is, Woods publicly professed his connection to Buddhism long before the scandal broke. In a May 2008 Reuters interview shortly after the birth of his second child, Woods noted that he adhered to tenets of Buddhism such as meditation: “I practice meditation — that is something that I do, that my mum [sic] taught me over the years. We also have a thing we do every year, where we go to temple together,” he said. “In the Buddhist religion you have to work for it yourself, internally, in order to achieve anything in life and set up the next life. It is all about what you do and you get out of it what you put into it. So you are going to have to work your butt off in every aspect of your life.” And as he admitted Sunday, he’s got plenty of work ahead.”

“It is all about what you do and you get out of it what you put into it”?! (emphasis my own)

This is the part where I breath a massive sigh of relief, because everything I am and have is wrapped up in someone completely else! It is all because of him that I live and breath and move and have my being…when jesus gave up his last breath upon the cross, the words “IT IS FINISHED” rung out ever so loudly over my life…where religion says “DO, DO, DO”, my Jesus looks at me and says “DONE, DONE, DONE!”.

What a great way to start a day…what a great way to live a life!

Romans.6:33 “the WAGES (noun:  a recompense for worthy acts or retribution for wrongdoing) of sin is death, but the GIFT (noun:  something acquired without compensation) of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus
